How I know Moms Need Reiki for a balanced life

Summer holidays are in full swing, and moms, we’re only halfway through!  I can explain to you first hand how I know mom’s need Reiki for living a balanced life.

Already the kids are starting to get on each other’s nerves. By now, your good humour and enthusiasm to be home with the kids have dwindled. You are slowly running out of steam, you’ve run out of creative ideas and activities to keep them occupied and combat boredom. The kids have plenty of toys to play with, there is a park across the street, and bicycles are waiting to be hopped on.

Yet, they would rather stay inside and slowly drive you crazy.

It’s that feeling

Mom, I know what’s happening and how you’re feeling. I’m in the midst of it too! The kids are all fighting for our attention, and we feel pulled in different directions. We wish we felt more enthusiasm, but we have no more desire to build another Lego tower, make slime, or bake another batch of cookies.

Then we feel the guilt creep up. We feel like a bad mom because, frankly, (and you would never admit this out loud), we wish that they were back in school so we could get a break, and we wish that we could be happy just having them home!! Instead of feeling like we want to escape them somehow.

To top it off we’re feeling stir crazy too, and frankly, kind of lonely. We find it hard to reach out to other mom friends or acquaintances. Because we know not all of them can relate to having a child with special needs.

We would love to set up more playdates but find it too draining to reach out and plan one. Mostly because our children sometimes need help to be a “good friend” on playdates. The feeling of being obligated to be there in the wings to make sure that they are sharing and not dictating how their friend plays is a lot some days. We stay on the sidelines but are on “hyper-alert” in case things go off the rails quickly and we need to step in. By the time the friend leaves after a few hours, the mental and physical exhaustion is real, we need some serious downtime to relax.

Instead of taking the time to head to your room though, sneak in that 5-minute meditation, we navigate to pick up the phone and scroll through social media feeds to fill the void of loneliness and disconnection. We say, “It’s a quick distraction,” but as the scrolling continues, feelings get worse and worse. It seems that every other family is having a fun-filled vacation (and you’re stuck at home), or other kids seem to be having sleepovers or parties with their friends (yet your kids haven’t been invited anywhere). It turns out scrolling through social media was not a good idea, and we are left feeling irritable and sad.

“Help, what help?”

When our spouse gets home from work, not only are we feeling just lousy, but it’s easy to snap at them for leaving the socks on the floor. Then we get angry at ourselves for letting something so small get to us so much. At this point, days like this are starting to be more commonplace, and we don’t know what to do!

Ughhhhh, why can’t we feel more lighthearted, not guilty, and not so physically and mentally drained all the time?

There needs to be something that can be accessed to help you feel less stress and tension and feel more energized and not drained.

Here comes the Reiki!

This is where Reiki helps me. No, seriously, it helps me to balance everything back out! Emotions, thoughts, my energy. To understand how Reiki works, it helps to know a bit more about it.

The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) explains how we are alive because of life force energy, and it is always flowing through us and around us in an energy field called an Aura. When the life force is disrupted (due to negative thoughts and feelings and stress), the flow becomes disrupted, and our ability to maintain balance is diminished.

We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Lifeforce flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Lifeforce nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is being disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.

The life force is responsive to our thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and disrupt the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body, where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This form of healing causes negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow healthily and naturally.

How I know!

Since starting my Reiki journey, I have come to realize working on myself is not that hard. My life is thanking me for taking the time to focus on myself and also thanking me for helping others. I can recognize when an imbalance is making its way into my life and yea, and I will admit that I can let it go too far before doing something about it. But, with learning about Reiki and being able to practice, I can come out of it.

We all deserve to feel great. We all deserve to live a balanced life emotionally, mentally and physically. Reiki has helped me do this, and I can honestly say mom’s need Reiki.
